While researching plants to discover an herbal or natural sexual stimulant, scientists at Himalaya stumbled on a plant, which exhibited therapeutic properties that worked in a reverse manner i.e., it blocked the release of testosterone. On further research, the scientists identified a fraction as potent as the chemical Finestride that inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydro testosterone -which is responsible for prostrate hyperplasia.

On the other hand, scientists working on anti-hypertensive agents discovered a potent herb as alpha-blocker, which acts to relax the urethra and thereby reduces the discomfort of urination.

A combination of 5-alpha reductase, which inhibits conversion of testosterone to dihydro testosterone and alpha-blocker, which reduces the discomfort of urination, resulted in a highly effective and safe therapy for benign prostrate hyperplasia. This is the first ever medicine of herbal origin to contain a combination of these two effects. Both actions of Himplasia are clinically documented with 11 research papers, including publications in two international journals.
